Mikron Tool is expanding its milling cutter program with a new version of Plunge Milling CrazyMill Cool P&S, which is now suitable for deeper machining operations.

Like its successful "short" predecessor, it is characterized by the ability to insert (drill) the material vertically, mill slots or grooves into solid materials in the smallest space, and finish the milling with a finishing operation. Although the milling depth of the short version (2.5 xd) is based on the machining of the keyway (as found on the drive shaft of the engine), the goal now is to be able to mill as deep grooves and grooves as possible with a single tool to reach further machining in the workpiece area.

The new version of solid carbide plunge milling cutter is based on the same technology as the short version. It is now possible to cut into the material vertically in a few steps and reach a maximum milling depth of 5 xd. Despite its length, the milling cutter is very stable, while its cutting speed and chip removal rate, as well as its long tool life and surface quality are impressive-all of which comes from a milling diameter of one millimeter (.039").

The geometry of the tip enables stable and vibration-free drilling (vertical cuts) even at a depth of 5 xd. This not only prevents the cutting edge from breaking-which is one of the main difficulties when drilling with a milling cutter-but also ensures excellent surface quality and longer tool life.

At this depth, good chip evacuation plays a more important role in this version. Chips remain in the milling area and break up multiple times, which results in a higher risk of damaging the milling cutter and milling surface. The special cutting edge geometry with expanded chip area provides a remedy to ensure perfect removal of transverse chips during the cutting process and maintain the stability of the milling cutter even during deep milling. The integrated coolant pipe in the tool holder has a large amount of coolant flow, which can ensure effective chip removal even from the narrow or inclined space of the deep cavity or groove.

CrazyMill Cool P&S has a diameter range of 1mm to 8mm and a maximum milling depth of 5 xd.
